Statement of Principles and Beliefs
The following is the Heritage Haven Statement of Principles and Beliefs as pertaining to Christian education. Families in our community are not required to agree with every detail however they agree to respect the right of Heritage Haven Homeschool Cooperative to uphold these views and use discretion based on them in all aspects.

Hebraic vs Greek Style Of Teaching
We state that we are a Hebraic-Christian homeschool organization. This means we teach from a Hebrew mindset vs a Greek mindset. Hebrew learning focuses on the following: Holistic, Concrete, Pictures, Practical, Function, Verbs, Cyclical, Community/Family, Parenthood, Relationships First, Responsibility and Duty, Cooperative, Know YHVH. Greek learning focuses on these areas: Dualistic, Abstract, Ideas, Theoretical, Appearance, Nouns, Linear, Institution, Directorship, Structures First, Power, Centralized, Know Thyself. As you can see Greek teaching and mindset puts all the emphasis on self; whereas Hebrew teaching and mindset focuses on the Whole and how everything connects with YHVH. This is what we mean by Hebraic-Christian. We are not a part of any Hebrew roots movement including but not limited to: Christian Torah-submission, Ebionites, Judaizers, Nazarene (sect), New Perspective on Paul, Paleo-orthodoxy, Restorationism, Black Hebrew Israelites. We do have families within our community that have been blessed by learning about and observing the biblical feast and how they point to Yeshua. We also believe each person should live by their own conviction if they choose to follow any of YHVH's teachings on abstaining from eating unclean foods or observing Sabbath. We do not make any of these things a point of separation as we are unified in Yeshua and His salvation.
Homeschooling Isn't The Easy Option, But It’s The Best
We believe that Homeschooling is the best option to provide our children with a first class, biblically based education. With the culture even in some churches and private schools straying from the foundations of scripture, teaching at home is truly the only way that we can know and control exactly what is shaping our children's worldview at such a young and impressionable time in their life. We believe that parents are the most highly qualified people to teach their own children. We are passionate not only about preparing our children intellectually for the educational or career path of their choice, but more importantly training them for the much greater battle of living their God-given purpose on this earth. We are passionate about recognizing the unique gifts that the Lord has given each of our children and allowing them to learn and grow in a way that individually compliments and develops those gifts to the fullest extent.
Education Vs. Learning
We believe in teaching the whole child, and that true learning goes way beyond the memorization of facts or information in a textbook. We encourage parents to develop a passion for learning in every area of life and model that for their children. Learning can be fun, and sometimes, it can be hard. As long as the content is developmentally appropriate, we don’t shy away from the hard work, because we believe in teaching our children the importance of excellence, dedication, and discipline, and that sometimes great things come with much sacrifice on our part.
While we believe in maximizing the potential of our children's intelligence, many scientific studies show that education started too harshly and too early has negative physiological and psychological repercussions. A child's developmental pattern is God ordained for a reason, and we don’t believe in rushing them through it to gain accolades. We also believe that each child's brain and gifting is unique. Not every child is going to be developmentally ready for a certain concept at the same time. We homeschool in a way that works for our family with tried and true principles that have withstood the test of time. We have no need to try to replicate the structure and standards of a modern public school at home.
God’s Design for Health
We are passionate about teaching our children how to live a lifestyle of divine health; using the Lord's creation as led by the Holy Spirit. We use the Lord’s creation but we don’t worship it. We understand that anything can become an idol quickly and that we are to acknowledge the Lord in all our ways so that He can direct our paths (Proverbs 3:5-6) especially when it comes to health and healing. We see the immeasurable value of teaching our children the timeless basics of nutrition, foraging, organic gardening, herbal remedies, instinctive/attachment parenting etc. We believe that God is not against science, but that He created science for our well being. We trust that the Lord's creation is good and choose to use His means of healing and health over the world's pharmakeia (Revelation 18:23) that is commonly idolized in today's society.
Seeking Truth
While we choose to place our focus on our mighty God and His power, we are also aware that our adversary, the devil, seeks to sell our children lies as truth. We are also aware that there will be many situations in the education of our children where there is no certain truth revealed and we must choose what we believe based on what we currently know or admit that we cannot come to a conclusion based on the evidence or lack of. We teach our children how to exercise wisdom and discernment when learning new information and how to separate truth and facts from lies and agenda. We teach our children to question everything, rely on the Holy Spirit for wisdom and discernment, weigh concrete evidence, and test everything with scripture which is our best source of the ultimate truth.

Science- We believe that scientific theories should be taught as such, and never used as biased propaganda. Many families in our community have realized that much of the "science" we were taught in public school really wasn't proper science at all. Families in our community might agree about certain theories and disagree about others. This is the beauty of science and intelligent discussion that we can all learn from. Creation is probably something we can all agree on, but why? Why would anyone believe in evolution? How long was the earth without form and void before the 6 day creation? Does the firmament still exist or was it destroyed in the flood? Instead of teaching our beliefs as inarguable truths and belittling others for not believing the same. We approach the subject of science by teaching children what the different theories are and the observations that have led to those theories. We believe children should be taught to dig for the truth, by reading and evaluating scientific studies and scholarly articles, testing theories, studying what the Word of God says, and listening to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit leading them into all truth. (John 16:13) We believe that this approach confirms the Lord's truth in our children based on their own convictions rather than just adopting their parents beliefs, and also prepares them to defend that truth in a respectful manner when they encounter someone who sees things differently.

History- There is the history that we are told, and the hidden history that we can dig for. For example, was Constantine actually a Christian? What were his motives? Can anyone actually be 100% sure when only the Lord knows and tests the heart? We do not believe in categorizing people of history as only villains or heroes. God is true, Satan is the author of lies and every human being on earth can make decisions with their free will that either submit to the Lord or Satan. Many prominent people that have shaped ancient biblical and modern world history have done both, often in the same day. Instead of labeling a person as good or bad, our focus is on what the Lord has accomplished through a persons actions regardless of their fallible humanity, the repercussions of their sins and how their evil actions affected the story, and how we need to humbly ask the Lord to deliver us from evil and help us walk in His will without wavering.
What you see in today’s mainstream media is going to be in a history book one day. Does that make it true? Much history is recorded and told from a biased viewpoint and It is not uncommon for a certain agenda to be attached to the story. We can already see that with many things that we were taught in school or were sold to the public. We need to take that into consideration when obtaining information and teaching our children.

Scripture- We love to expand our knowledge of the word of God by studying the culture and context of when it was written as well as the original languages that it was written in. We understand that there are many different translations and doctrinal differences concerning how scripture has been taught throughout history. While we believe that original scripture is inerrant, we understand that no English translation is a perfect representation and there is benefit to reading and comparing them all. We always seek to know the closest literal translation of the original documents, which is why we are passionate about studying the ancient languages like Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic for better understanding. We also know that there will be times that we need to rely solely on the Holy Spirit and God’s grace for the things we have yet to fully understand. We encourage healthy discussion in love among believers comparing what they have learned in their studies and what the Holy Spirit has revealed to them.

Holidays
We encourage families to not just blindly follow the human traditions of this world but to thoroughly evaluate each and every holiday tradition and its historical origins and rely on the conviction and discernment of the Holy Spirit. This can be a touchy area as there is a wide range of what believers do and do not allow on this subject. Christians who grow in the Lord are also continually being led into new knowledge and intimacy with Him that shapes our view of what we believe honors Him or doesn’t. With that being said these are the beliefs that WIT has currently chosen to uphold in a group setting.
We fully support the celebrations and study of the Biblical feasts and Holy Days as laid out in scripture. We believe they not only tell of the Lord coming to earth to dwell with us in the flesh and His redemption, but they also prophetically point to Him coming again. We support any celebrations of these feasts as long as the traditions honor the Lord and His word.
We do not condone the celebration of Halloween in any way shape or form. In our study of the history of each and every tradition, we have not found one part that honors the Lord or is biblical, but have only found the opposite.
History tells us that Christmas and Easter both have pagan origins and were later labeled “Christian” by trying to redeem pagan tradition to convert the pagans over to “Christianity.” Unfortunately this lead to people mixing the holy with the unholy and calling it all Christian in good fun. We encourage families to do their research on each individual tradition and allow the Holy Spirit to guide them. We will never condemn any celebration of our Lord and Savior's birth, death, and resurrection so we see some aspects of these Holidays as redeemable. We choose to use the term Resurrection Sunday rather than the pagan name Easter and keep the focus on Jesus rather than the pagan traditions and rituals such as Easter eggs and bunnies (fertility symbols and rituals), Santa Claus (Oden), etc.
We encourage the study and celebration of Chanukah and its history as found in the account of Maccabees. Just like Christmas and Resurrection Sunday, there can be secular traditions that may or may not be something great to participate in.
This same discretion can be used for Valentines Day which has both wholesome and very unwholesome origins and traditions.
As parents who are striving to teach our Children to find the truth and tell the truth we encourage telling the truth about made up characters such as the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and Tooth Fairy. There are so many fun things that we can find to enrich our children’s lives that are God honoring and pure and do not require misleading children and twisting their understanding of what is true.
See to it that there is no one who takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception in accordance with human tradition, in accordance with the elementary principles of the world, rather than in accordance with Christ. Colossians 2:8
False/Pagan gods and their mythology
We believe that there is only One True God- The Most High. Scripture is clear that any other “god” that is named among men and worshiped as a deity is a demon (Deuteronomy 32:16-17, Psalm 106:35-38, 1 Corinthians 10:19-21). There is a very strong theme all throughout scripture that false gods are abominations and the Lord wants his followers to have absolutely nothing to do with them. There is a trend even among some “Christian” curricula to teach young children that the false gods of Greece and Rome are heroes and compare them to people in biblical history such as Eve and Moses. We do not recommend letting young children fill their minds with demonic mythology as entertainment or in the name of education. (1 Timothy 1:3-4)
We are aware that we are Christ followers in the middle of a pagan culture and we can't avoid everything with a pagan origin. (Even the days of the week are named after false gods.) It is inevitable that the subject of false gods will come up in our children's education, but we need to be very careful on how they are presented. We believe every student should learn about pagan cultures and their gods in a factual way, after they have a strong biblical foundation and are old enough to know good from evil. Our children need to know what the Bible says about pagan gods and be able to recognize the demonic when they see it. You can rest assured we will not allow the representation of false God’s as heroes in our community.
Parental Rights
We believe in freedom, and the right to choose what is best for our children. We also believe in medical privacy. We do not believe in the requirement of masks to be worn or any proof of vaccination status or extensive medical history of your children in order to participate. All medical information is volunteered by parents as they see fit for the safety of their own children, such as allergy or blood sugar concerns, care in case of emergency, or special educational needs. We believe in showing respect to others by staying home if you have a contagious illness, but we also understand that kids are great at building their immune systems and we aren’t scared of the occasional runny nose.
We Are Better Together
We believe the Lord created us to live and thrive in community with each other to sharpen each other (Prov. 27:17) and bear one another's burdens (Galatians 6:2). We value a homeschooling community that helps us make the most of our time and energy without adding unnecessary stress to our weekly schedule. We share the load with each other in many ways and build each other up. Rather than one large production each week, parents volunteer to facilitate individual or group classes at specific times that work for them in a convenient location, creating more possibilities for learning and opportunities for parents to maximize their time and energy.
We encourage families to connect on a deeper level with other like minded families in the group to fellowship and help teach each other's children. We believe that each family should be able to choose the level of involvement that works for them, while placing importance on following through to the best of your ability after a commitment has been made.
